Boy Scout Troop 715 participated in the American Red Cross “Masters of Disaster” program and are required to create an emergency plan for their home. Wendy Mann, Jamie Carlson and Bree Griffith taught the class. Scouts attending were Jacob Patton, Chapin and Kip Chappell, John Tharp, Preston Moudy, Jon Snyder, Stephen Hodges, Robert Jenks, Ben Blocher, Matt Holderman, Trent McClintock, Justin and Travis Hurt, Nate Lafountain, Craig and Kyle Schneider, Andrew Miller, Kyle and Kory Moudy and Brandon Sowers. Adult leaders were Scott McClintock and Dick McCleary.

Commencement speaker for the 1988 graduating class of Triton High School will be Dr. Patrick C. Silveus, son of Eldon and Mary Silveus, Bourbon. Dr. Silveus was a 1972 graduate of Triton. After completing a degree at Purdue University, he went on to earn his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Patrick has an office in Mentone since July 1984.
Esther Pfleiderer, a 1983 recipient of the Warsaw Woman of the Year Award, taught for 41 years, 39 of which were in the Warsaw Community School Corp. She is a 1930 graduate of Manchester College, with a degree in math. The college is awarding her its highest alumni distinction. “She offers her time, effort, and understanding in the education of children, with a beautiful insight into human nature and a tremendous interest in sharing.”

National Tire Safety Week, first campaign of its kind in the history of American motoring, will be formally inaugurated May 14, by enterprising Warsaw tire merchants in co-operation with the national move taking place in nearly every city in the United States. It is designed as a means of impressing upon motorists the folly of using worn tires from the standpoint of safety and false economy in “squeezing the last few miles” out of a set of worn tires. It is also designed to stimulate business and employment in the tire and accessory trade and the many affiliated industries.
