    A Whitko High School student was recently named the winner of the 1997 Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award.

Gertel Peters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Peters, Pierceton, has been president and parliamentarian of the Whitko FFA Chapter.

June 5 1982

    Vicki White has been named the most valuable player on the Warsaw Community High School tennis team, and Karen Kolesiak the most improved. Both were honored at the team's awards banquet. The Tigers finished second to Peru in the sectional.

June 5 1957

    Two girls are among Kosciusko County entries in the North Webster Mermaid Festival "Queen of Lakes" contest the last week of June. Jeannine Kay Gagnon will compete as "Miss Silver Lake." She is the 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gagnon, Silver Lake, weighs 110 pounds, stands 5-1-1/2, has dark brown eyes and hair. Sue Ellen Blackburn, 16, entered as "Miss Mentone." Sue Ellen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Blackburn, Warsaw. She weighs 130 pounds, stands 5-6, has blonde hair and blue eyes.
