    AKRON - Aaron Reed, a fifth-grade student at Akron Elementary School, is the Fulton County winner of the Indiana Troopers Association's Statewide Fifth-Grade Essay Contest. As the Fulton County winner, Reed is the recipient of a $500 savings bond. Reed is the son of George and Pam Reed of Akron.

    The Lakeland Afternoon Bridge A Rama ladies held their awards luncheon recently at the Beacon. Prizes for the season of play were awarded as follows: Gross Score Winners: 1st, Verna Knauer and Barbara Medlock; 2nd, Charlotte Scheiber and Connie Inks; 3rd, Joyce Peterson and Betty Monroe.

Net Score Winners: 1st, Jane Nearing and Helen Alfrey; 2nd, Pattie Norman and Carrie Switzer; 3rd Clar Brodrick and Margaret Teghtmeyer.

June 3 1959

    Three South Whitley truckers were among the 297 drivers honored for safe driving achievements at Akron, Ohio. The three were Ralph Joker, E.W. Mishler and Kenneth Mishler. Joker became a member of the 10-year club; E.W. Mishler, the nine-year club; and Kenneth Mishler, the seven-year club. All were awarded savings bonds and pins.

    Gene Rovenstine, student at Wabash College, has returned to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Rovenstine of Atwood. During the past college term, Rovenstine was initiated into the Phyinx Club and elected to the Senior Council, two honorary organizations of the college.
