Excitement was high among sixth-graders in the Milford Junior High School Extended Study Program as their team qualified third out of 911 schools around the world for the International Future Problem Solving Bowl at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Billy L. Yeager, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor R. Yeager of Rural Route 2, Akron, was recently advanced to the rate of yeoman third class after passing the Navy's fleetwide examination for the Navy rate.
Shorty Piper, well-known Warsaw young man, former high school basketball athlete and baseball catcher for the Warsaw Merchants, is being given a tryout this week with the Toledo Mud Hens of the American Association. Shorty, who between times drives a Wayne Township school bus and helps operate the Winona entrance filling station, is a dandy receiver and has a strong throwing arm. Local fans hope he makes good. He may be farmed out to some minor league for seasoning.
