10 Years Ago Ronnie Shoemaker, 13, of Warsaw, is the proud owner of an autographed picture of N’SYNC he recently received. Last year, Shoemaker sent for – and received – an autographed photo of President George W. Bush, and this year he went for N’SYNC, since he is a long-time fan. Shoemaker will be a seventh-grader at Lakeview next year, and his favorite N’SYNC song is ‘I Want You Back.’ 25 Years Ago Few events have captured the spirit of “community” here better than the upcoming 1987 Syracuse sesquicentennial celebration scheduled to begin Friday. Even the hard-working organizers themselves have been awed by the outpouring. Not only in terms of moral support and enthusiasm, but with their money, Syracuse-Wawasee residents have banded together for one whale of a birthday party. 50 Years Ago Miss Irene Dome, Winona Lake is en route to the Seattle World’s Fair with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bickett of Bakersfield, Calif. From Seattle they will go on to Vancouver, Lake Louise and Banff. Miss Dome flew from Chicago to San Francisco where the Bicketts met her. Volunteers gave 227 pints of blood recently at the Elks club in Warsaw, exceeding by 27 the Red Cross goal of 200 pints. It is the highest number of pints of blood ever collected in the 11-year history of the county program. 75 Years Ago Portions of Kosciusko County and Warsaw experienced in the past 12 to 18 hours, a drop in temperature of 30 degrees. Farmers reported a light frost in the lowlands. Wednesday morning some homes started furnace fires. The highest temperature registered Tuesday afternoon was 78 degrees at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Thermometers at 5 and 6 o’clock Wednesday morning registered between 48 and 50 degrees.
