North Webster's Mermaid Festival wrapped up with crowning of the Queen of Lakes and the Cutie King and Queen. Winning queen was Kelly Leer, of Millersburg. Amanda Blackman was first runner-up. Heidi Mattern was second runner-up, while Renee Welch was third runner-up. Austin Smith was named Cutie King, while Rachel Ward was Cutie Queen.
Terri Kellogg, 21, Miss Nappanee, was crowned Miss Queen of Lakes during the close of the 37th Annual Mermaid Festival in North Webster.
There were lots of folks at the opening of the North Webster Mermaid Festival. Some came to see, some for rides and excitement - but evidently 3-year-old Mark Gerard came to eat. Armed with cotton candy, cracker jack and taffy, Mark had his hands and mouth full. He is the son of former North Webster High School basketball coach Joe Gerard.
Two persons, while fishing in Syracuse Lake, last week claim that they saw a 27-inch alligator in the lake. It is claimed by lake residents that this is the same alligator seen in the lake last summer.
