June 25 10 Years Ago Strong winds from storms that moved through Kosciusko County during the weekend damaged many trees. Many tree limbs fell onto roadways, houses and power lines. A large tree fell onto the Paula Osborn residence on the north side of Tippecanoe Lake. No injuries were reported here or when a tree fell onto a moving vehicle in Warsaw. Officials with Kosciusko County REMC and NIPSCO report cleanup and repair crews were busy all weekend. The Warsaw Municipal Airport substation lost power Friday afternoon but was running again by 6:30 p.m. Saturday. 25 Years Ago McClone Electric was recently named winner of the Kosciusko County Trap and Skeet Club’s winter season. Members are Jim Lohse, Russell Brenske, Jake McClone, Ellis Hartman, Dan Rife and Bruce Kinsey, who won the High Gun Award. The faculty at Jefferson Elementary School, Winona Lake, surprised secretaries Pat Phillips and Dorothy Ring by having a barbershop quartet from Fort Wayne serenade them. The quartet are members of The Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Singing in America. 50 Years Ago Five co-captains of the Pierceton track team accept the championship trophy from Etna Green Principal Brenton Graham after the Cubs won the Kosciusko County high school track and field title Friday afternoon for the ninth time in the last 10 years. Graham is president of the Kosciusko County Principals Association. Co-captains are Robin Stickney, Jerry Blanchard, Rick Kerr, Phil Conley and Jim Kilgore. Beaver Dam won the county junior high track crown, topping 10 other schools, with 54 points. Both meets were held in Pierceton. 75 Years Ago Nine schools of the Indiana Central Conference will meet here at the new athletic field Saturday to determine the track champion of the conference. Warsaw is defending champion. Schools that will attempt to end the reign of the Tigers are Alexandria, Burris of Muncie, Huntington, Peru, Plymouth, Rochester, Tipton and Wabash. Rochester is being favored by reason of its showing in the Kokomo relays a week ago. Warsaw was nosed out of the title by Rochester’s 58 points; Warsaw scored 57-1/2.
