June 24 1998

    Gene England, a Silver Lake farmer and 35-year schoolteacher, was chosen grand marshal of this year's Silver Lake Days parade.

Winners of the cutie contest were: Shawntell Miller, daughter of Donald Shepherd and Cindy Miller of Warsaw, was named Cutie Queen; Ryan Zellner, son of Ken and Cheryl Zellner, Beaver Dam Lake, was named Cutie King.

June 24 1983

    Brooke Huffman, 3, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Teel, Mentone, was the first-place float winner for the theme "Mentone Fantasy Funland." The youngster was also named "Miss Chick 1983" during the weekend's Egg Festival. "Mr. Rooster" was Ryan Engle, 1-1/2, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Engle, Mentone.

    Kosciusko County high school Boys State delegates leaving for Indiana University campus at Bloomington for a full week of activities are: Michael Long, North Webster; Alan Reed, Silver Lake; Eugene Lange, Milford; Tom Kuhn, Jerry Aylor, Dale Martin, Dale Benson and Wes Nelson, all of Warsaw; Bill Whetstone, Beaver Dam; Bob Evans, Claypool; Max Spann and Lynn Pletcher, both of Pierceton; Delmar Prater, Sidney; David Kerchenfaw and Dean Crist, both of Leesburg; Don Beeson, Mentone; Dennis Plummer, Atwood; and Tom Huffman, Etna Green.

    The Warsaw Conservatory of Music, under the direction of Maude Snyder, presented an excellent recital at the studio. Those appearing on the program were Betty Goshorn, Donald Burns, Hal Pottenger, Dorothy and Doris Jackson, Ruth Jordan, Robert Shinn, Marjorie Hirons, Jean Manwaring, Betty Pottenger, Dr. L.D. Chinworth, Mary Poor, Phyllis Russell, Jean Burns and Dorothy Scoles.
