10 Years Ago Erin Murphy decided to donate 12 inches of her hair to “Wigs for Kids,” after watching a television show about children who lose their hair because of chemotherapy treatments. Erin had her dark brown locks chopped off by Jim Evans at Cool Hair in Warsaw. Erin’s parents are Mike and Amanda Murphy. Amanda Murphy works at Superior Auto in Warsaw. 25 Years Ago Syracuse native Ernie Rogers will preside over the activities of the Syracuse Sesquicentennial celebration as the town’s honorary mayor. He was named mayor at a banquet recently after it was determined he raised the most funds among eight candidates vying for the title. A total of $41,170.08 was raised by the candidates through a series of fund-raisers. The funds will be used to construct an addition to the Syracuse Public Library. 50 Years Ago Miss Ann Strickler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Strickler, North Manchester, will spend two months in Chile this summer under sponsorship of the Experiment in International Living, which is sending 1,600 American students to 31 countries. Ann, a Manchester College junior, will live with a Chilean family one month and travel through the country the second month. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. D.B. Mikesell and son, Blaine, of Winona Lake, and Miss Bette Mikesell, of Warsaw, returned recently to their homes after enjoying a 10-day trip to Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., and other points in the east. Ernest Fleischauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fleischauer of Claypool, left Tuesday noon on his bicycle for South Bend where he will spend a week with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Cormican.
