Warsaw's Denny Hepler, Raccoon Run golf pro, competed in the Texas Roadhouse Indianapolis Open May 23 and 24 at The Fort Golf Course and came away tied for second place after shooting a 36-hole score of 141, finishing 3-under and one stroke behind Rochester's Todd Smith. Other local golfers to compete: Joel Bickel, Syracuse, tied for eighth; Tippecanoe Valley graduate and IUPUI student Drew Shafer tied for 14th; Dave Schumaker, Stonehenge pro, tied for 28th; Quinn Griffing, North Manchester, tied for 42nd.
Kosciusko County 4-H Horse and Pony judging senior team took a first place in the state contest May 7 at Purdue University; the junior team earned fourth place. Both teams were coached by Dawn Boggs, Misty and Mindy Elliott.

Julie Teel's owl monoprint was the $50 grand prize winner of the 11th annual Warsaw Community High School Art Exhibit coordinated by WCHS art teachers Sara Robbins, Deborah Trausch and Sherry Sprouls, as well as art department coordinator Nancy Shoemaker. Recipients of $20 prizes: Camilla Kruse, Chris McCleary, Terry Warrix, Mike Beezley, Josh Stevenson, Becky Music, Rachael Colt, Eric Graves, Mike McDonald, Jenny Murphy and Mike Janda.

Angela Tapper, a first-grade student at Jefferson Elementary, is studying for her French test as a participant of the language program at Grace College. Angela's parents are Lee and Dianne Tapper, Winona Lake.

Leesburg High School's junior Jack Stookey was voted the Warsaw American Legion Post #49 outstanding athlete at the Kosciusko County High School track meet at Pierceton. He won three events, set two new records and tied another. Stookey was congratulated by his principal, Charles Garner.
Bonnie Petteys received the Crisco award for being the outstanding home economics student at Claypool High School. She participated in the style show with Sue Jackson, Michele Jeffries and Susan Conley. All the girls made their outfits. Home Economics instructor at Claypool is Mrs. David Purdy.
Construction of the circular glass and concrete two-story Peoples State Bank of Leesburg is expected to be completed by July 1 by Arthur Baugher, contractor.

Marie Emerick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Emerick, Warsaw, will be queen of the May Day breakfast at the Methodist church. Attending are Virginia Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Scott, Winona Lake, and Mary Ann Robbins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robbins, Warsaw. Emerick will preside over the festivities.
The poll in the first precinct of the Third Ward in Warsaw will be held in the Ebert bowling alley on South Buffalo Street, first door south of the Old State Bank building, it was announced by County Auditor Helen Kyle. It had been previously advertised to be held at the Safeway grocery building on West Center Street.
