Entries in the Sesquicentennial cake baking contest will be judged in Room C at the Warsaw Community Public Library June 26. Unique Bakery owners Russell and Helen Smith made a 410-pound cake when the Chief Super Market celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1949. Store owner is H.B. "Doc" Lowery.
   Jordan Horney, Warsaw, hauled in the largest catch during the Warsaw Parks Department Fishing Derby Saturday. He also won the 9 to 12-year-old category. Each participant was given a tackle box.
   Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department presents the 10th annual Classic Rock Concert featuring Davy Jones Friday, June 18 at Warsaw's Central Park.

The Strawberry Festival started off Saturday morning with a flag ceremony on the Courthouse lawn. Elks Lodge presented 153 classroom flags to Warsaw and Wawasee school corporations. The day continued under cloudy skies and cool temperatures.
   Pledges have been raised for beginning construction of the Warsaw Biblical Gardens to be located at the northeast corner of Detroit and Canal streets near the Center Lake Pavilion. It will be done in three phases; the Gardens is one of five in the U.S. and will be the largest when completed. Steering committee: Leo Pfister, Dorothy Sweeney, Saralee Levin, Aumund Andre, Pat Watkins, John Sadler, Mark Sanders, Dr. Robert Fuson, Dick Adams, Savina Kralis, Martha Klondaris and Bess Joyner. All plantings are cited in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Washington Elementary School first-grader Bradley Ellis pours while classmate Robie Staley wields a shovel as the pupils planted a magnolia tree on the northeast corner in observance of Arbor Day. The tree was presented to the school by Robert Staley.
   Robert M. Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. Freeland Phillips, 748 North Lake St., Warsaw, is one of 10 Indiana University students chosen to participate in the Indiana Intercollegiate Study Project in England this summer. They leave Indianapolis June 21.
   Chosen as the outstanding senior member of the Warsaw Community High School Choir, Ruth Hood was presented the Phillips Cecilian Music Award by Freeland Phillips at the spring music festival Tuesday evening. Miss Margaret Ann Voirol, director, presented the service and achievement award to Elizabeth Geible and LeEtta Ring.

The Warsaw fire pumper, which has been out of commission since it broke down two weeks ago, has been repaired and was put in service Friday afternoon, successfully passing all engine tests. The engine has been entirely rebuilt, and although it is not guaranteed to pump more than 750 gallons per minute, in the test Friday 862 gallons was recorded. A set of new tires was added, bringing the total cost of repairs to be $2,600. Warsaw firemen expressed their appreciation to Winona Lake for the loan of its fire truck during the emergency. The pumper was purchased 13 years ago from the Seagrave Co., Columbus, O. for $13,500.
   The Palestine Christian Church will present a program entitled "Watch With Me One Hour" Sunday evening, April 9 at 7:30 p.m.
