    In a major development in the local grocery business, Kroger Co. announced the purchase of all seven stores owned by Owen's.

The announcement ends the 45-year reign of Owen's Super Market as the main locally-owned grocery store in the Warsaw area.

    NAPPANEE - Tracy Long, who will be a senior at Warsaw Community High School, won both hurdles races in the White River Park State Games regional track meet here over the weekend to advance to the state meet in Indianapolis.

Long won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.0 and captured the 400-meter hurdles in 68.3

    Ethel Neer, West Jefferson Street, will receive the regent's degree, the highest honor awarded by Women of the Moose. Neer has been active in the local unit of Women of the Moose since 1949.

    Mrs. W. H. Robinson, of Atwood, is the owner of a mother cat of unusual intelligence. The cat can count and can remember overnight. Last night the cat killed five rats, one each for her five baby kittens' dinner. The old mother cat carried the dead rats to the door of the woodshed where her kittens were. The door was closed so she deposited the rats outside the doorway. This morning she found another way. She began calling her kittens with a maternal meow and directed them to come out of the closed shed through another exit. She then led them to where she had piled the five rats.
