    Kosciusko County's preliminary unemployment rate of 5 percent for April was the fifth-lowest in state, and nearly 1 percent lower than the February and March rates of 5.8, which were the second lowest in the state for those months. The 5-percent mark represents 1,450 unemployed out of a work force of 29,550.

    Jean McDowell, 17, blonde, blue-eyed daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. M. McDowell, of Warsaw, has been chosen by students of Warsaw High School to compete as "Miss Warsaw" in the "Queen of the Lakes" contest at the North Webster Mermaid Festival.

    Hope was expressed by members of the Warsaw American Legion that some way will be found to complete the Warsaw airport now held up because the government did not finish it under the CWA program. The Legion has leased the Beyer farm and guaranteed to pay the first-year rental.
