    Mark Weber, son of David and Susan Weber, Akron, has been awarded $500 for the best essay of all fifth-graders at Akron Elementary. The award come from the Indiana Troopers Benevolent Association.

The essay topic was "Positive Reasons for Living A Drug Free Life." Honorable mention went to Valerie Drudge and Brianne Walgamuth.

June 14 1982

    MENTONE - Twenty-five brave males bared their legs in the first-ever WRSW Hairy Legs Contest, and one pair ran away with the grand prize. Don Flenar, a senior at Tippecanoe Valley High School, won a $25 gift certificate from Lazy Jack's for his prize-winning legs. The contest, which was held at the Junior High School, was a part of the Mentone Centennial.

    Richard G. Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Morris, Claypool, has been awarded a BSC degree from the business administration school of International College.

Morris was salutatorian of the 1955 class at Claypool High School.

    Leolin "Bud" Moon, Francis Bowser, Frank Swihart, Ernest Beyer, George Boon, Glenn Harback, Wilbur Maish Jr. and Chester Zimmerman, of the Warsaw Elks' degree team, will attend the state convention of Elks in Huntington on Wednesday.
