10 Years Ago Page Desenberg, age 6, and Breanna Haskins, age 11, received Quack Packs for winning their age groups in the Cardinal Center Duck Race Coloring Contest. The Packs contained toys and a T-shirt for the Duck Race July 30. During Warsaw Community School's United Way campaign, one coveted prize was a car wash given by Superintendent Dr. David McGuire and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sandra Hess. Mary Thorndike, a teacher at Harrison Elementary, was the lucky winner. Grace College men's basketball coach Jim Kessler will represent the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and will be honored at the 2005 Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Awards Dinner in St. Louis. 25 Years Ago Country Cedar Lawn Furniture, owned by Dan Burgess, recently expanded to open a new store at 2211 E. Center St., Warsaw. Burgess has operated a store in North Manchester on Ind. 13 the past five years. Wyatt's Drafting and Design, owned by Mark Wyatt, has come to the Warsaw area, located at 991 S. 400W. The fieldstone wall of the Warsaw Biblical Gardens was completed earlier this year. Iron gates have been installed. Sharon Chase, chairwoman of the WCDC, said that the cement work and earth grading will be finished this week. Installation of an irrigation system will begin and then landscaping work. The park should be ready to open in September. 50 Years Ago Ronald Eugene Reece, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom F. Reece, has been selected by the Columbia City Eagles Lodge as a delegate to Boys State. He is the president of the junior class of Larwill High School. Steve McManama, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith H. McManama, has been selected to represent Larwill High School at Boys State by the Whitley County Farm Bureau. Warsaw High School's Tom Mahoney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Verl Mahoney, Warsaw, won top honors in the state vocational machine shop contest held at Indiana State College, Terre Haute. Last year, Tom Hoffhein, took top honors. Allen Hepler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hepler, received an honorable mention. Machine shop instructor is Glenn Lancaster. 75 Years Ago “Vote May 7, Mina L.
