10 Years Ago In recognition of the vital role that nurses play in health care, the Indiana State Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association have set aside May 6-12 as National Nurses Week. President Nixon issued a proclamation for a “National Registered Nurse Day” in 1974. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation declaring May 6, 1982, to be “National Recognition Day for Nurses.” In 1990, the ANA board of directors expanded this recognition to a week-long celebration. The Warsaw Community Public Library has materials to help you acquaint yourself with what nurses do and what they have to know. Begin your study of nursing with the lady who started it all: “Florence Nightingale, Lady With the Lamp.” Check it out! 25 Years Ago Dr. Howard Hull, assistant superintendent of instruction in the Wawasee Community Schools Corp., announced his resignation after accepting a position as superintendent of Smith-Green Community Schools Corp. in Churubusco.
