 Milford School is one of just two Indiana schools to achieve Reading Model school status, Wawasee schools Superintendent Mark Stock announced recently. He said it’s “a voluntary achievement the Milford staff worked hard to achieve.” Milford students passed more than 30,000 quizzes at the 85 percent comprehension rate.

 Many Kosciusko County residents thought they were “freaking out” Wednesday evening when their homes and cars started shaking. But it wasn’t their minds playing tricks on them. It was a bona fide, 5.0 on the Richter scale, earthquake. Warsaw police dispatcher Linda Slone reported having 20-25 minutes of continuous phone calls from people wanting to know what was happening. Sheriff Ron Robinson said there were no reports of major damage anywhere, just a lot of shook-up people.

 Tom Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Brown, of Silver Lake, has been selected as a representative for the Youth For Understanding Teen-age Exchange Program, which is sponsored by the Michigan Council of Churches in cooperation with the Department of State. Tom will leave for Finland and reside with several families. Tom plans to attend Manchester College in the fall.

  The following members of the Eagles Auxiliary returned from Connersville, Ind., where they attended the state “get together” meeting of the Auxiliary: Mrs. Alma Myers, Mrs. Nettie Philpott, Mrs. Ada Breading, Mrs. Dollie Berkey, Mrs. Beatrice Filar, Mrs. Mabel Leedy, Mrs. Edith Johnson, Mrs. Ida Diamond, Mrs. Georgia Shaw and Mrs. Dorothy Deneen.
