    MENTONE - The Egg Toss, always a popular event at the Mentone Egg Festival, had a lot of participants in spite of the rain. Winners of the 10-and-under group were Emily Vanlaningham and Hannah Krueger. Matt Craig and Scott Whetstone won the 11 to 18 age group, and were also the overall winners. In a playoff, Craig and Whetstone out-tossed the winners of the adult division, Mike and Carrie Whetstone.

June 11 1982

    Marine Lance Cpl. Hobert I. Probizanski, son of Nancy Probizanski, Warsaw, and a member of 2nd Battalion, 12th Marines, at Okinawa, recently participated in a Battalion Field Firing Exercise in Okinawa, Japan.

The exercise simulated actual combat conditions and involved coordination of the battalion's artillery, communication and motor transport sections. The unit provided artillery fire in support of infantry operations.

    Women of the South Shore Country Club Ladies' Day association golfed and had lunch at the clubhouse at their recent meeting.

Jane Rathbun and Anna Sudlow were first-place winners in the 18- and 9-hole play, respectively. Those taking second and third were Carolyn Holden and Mary Gerguson, 18-hole; and Betty Booty, 9-hole.

June 11 1932

    A very heavy rainfall near Dutchtown is reported. Carl Shroyer, whose hay was cut and was laying in the field, was floated toward one side of the field by the heavy downpour. This morning, the Gross and Jackson farms seemed a veritable lake, However, over near Leesburg, farmers were plowing corn.
