On September 24, 1954, the Kosciusko County Council for Handicapped Children was assembled in the home of Dr. Eugene Yoder, Syracuse Lake. The name Cardinal Learning Center was chosen in 1963 and they moved to their present location at 504 N. Bay Dr., Warsaw. The 50th anniversary celebration will start June 11 with a kickoff dinner at Warsaw’s Center Lake Pavilion. After the dinner will be a silent auction of the Cardinal Center quilt.
Contestants for Miss Mentone are: Kendra Buss, daughter of Ken and Lois Buss, Bourbon; Sontasha Ann Irons, daughter of Robert and Tonya Marshall, Etna Green; Kyla Nellans, daughter of Rusty and Kelly Nellans, Mentone.

Jerry Nolan, owner of Dairy Queen in Winona Lake, presented a ring to 1989 Warsaw graduate Aaron Bruce for his runner-up placing in the IHSAA state wrestling tournament in the 152-pound weight class. He finished this year 44-1 and 122-12 for his high school career. Bruce led the Tigers to seven major championships in the past two years.
Teachers from the Warsaw Community school system gathered in the middle school this morning to honor three retiring teachers; Gene Butts and Vern Campbell, Leesburg School, and Marilyn Phillips, gifted-talented coordinator.
Kris Perry, daughter of John Perry and Marion Ebersole, has been named valedictorian of the Class of 1989 at Tippecanoe Valley; Jerrod Feldman, son of John and Janice Feldman, salutatorian.

Warsaw City Council approved the request of Conservation Officer Earl Money to allow him to use the facilities of Center Lake during a five-day period in August for three hours each evening to conduct water safety classes.
Kosciusko County Commissioners are considering plans to enlarge the jail. The present garage would be utilized for a reception room, sheriff’s office and a room to question suspects. A garage would be constructed on the north side of the jail for vehicles. Sheriff Howard “Sam” Holbrook reports he doesn’t have adequate office space; persons wishing to talk to him must now come behind bars to do so.
Baker Boys Club participants in the State Ping Pong Tourney are Jack Snoke, Kim Leake, Bill Cosgrove, Jerry Patterson, Norm Weirick, Mike Hanna and Walter Wilson, Jr.

Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the Claypool Methodist Church March 28 after efforts by the Claypool and Silver Lake fire departments failed to halt the blaze. High School Principal Frank Sanders discovered the blaze; pupils and neighbors salvaged two pianos, hymnals, books, dishes, some carpet and chairs from destruction. The Rev. Arthur Clark, pastor, says the brick structure is valued at $15,000.
A new Pontiac sedan belonging to Mike Hodges, Warsaw contractor, which was stolen in Fort Wayne last Saturday while the owner and a party of friends were eating, was recovered Tuesday morning by Fort Wayne police. Hodges had made a business trip and parked his car, with the keys in the lock, near a restaurant.
