Richard Speakman has been named valedictorian of the Wawasee High School class of 1997, while salutatorian honors have been awarded to Kenneth Lawrence.

Speakman is the son of Dave and Carmi Speakman, Syracuse. Lawrence is the son of Chuck and Peg Lawrence, North Webster.

Margaret Mauzy and Les Phipps combined efforts to win Flight I of the "Beauty and the Beast" mixed doubles tennis tournament.

Julie Monteith and Ernie Kolesiak won Flight II.

Junior high school students of Silver Lake, Etna Green and Atwood will attend Girl's State to be held on the Indiana University campus at Bloomington.

Dixie Polk and Janice Workman, juniors at Silver Lake High School, are sponsored as delegate and alternate by the Silver Lake American Legion Auxiliary. The Atwood Auxiliary has named as their delegate and alternate Rosalie Ryman and Beverly Creighton. Working through the Atwood women's Legion unit, the Etna Green Lions Club is sponsoring Margaret Graber, delegate, and Carol Stine, alternate.

A party in honor of Agnes Cook was held by the members of the Business and Professional Women's Club in their club rooms. The evening was spent in playing dominoes and bridge. Prizes at dominoes were won by Addie Frankford, high score, and Maud Hanna, second. At bridge first prize went to Lucile Scott, second to Harriet Poulson, third to Zazel Mishler.
