10 Years Ago Robert Ross was hired as the new assistant principal for Triton Junior/Senior High School. Current Assistant Principal Glenn Weidner has requested to be assigned to a teaching position at the high school at the end of this school year. Pleasant Township School Board Representative Brad Perrott will leave the Manchester School Board in a few months when he moves out of state. 25 Years Ago Warsaw Business and Professional Women’s Club will hold an Original Jonah Fish Fry Saturday at the Women’s Building at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $4.50. Jeanine Knowles and Virginia Morris are co-chairmen of public relations for education. The Warsaw freshman band, under the direction of Michael Scheiber, received a first division rating at the ISSMA District Organizational Contest; the freshman choir, under the direction of Scott Avery, received a first division rating; Martin Becker, Warsaw Community High School, led his 70-member concert band to its third consecutive qualification for state finals. Seventeen trees along Center Street came down May 2 to allow room for new curbs, which have a wider base than the old ones. Trees are located on treelawns between Scott and Bronson. Each taken down will be replaced with two smaller maples. 50 Years Ago Kathleen Rood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rood, Pierceton, is the ideal Times-Union Calendar Girl for April. She won consecutive county spelling championships in 1960, ’61 and ’62, but decided not to go after a fourth crown in 1963. Her sister, Lise, will represent the family and Pierceton in the county finals of the fifth/sixth division April 3. County champion the past two years has been Mary Jo Conway, North Webster. Reita Molebash, Bourbon, and Joan Stutzman, Etna Green, have been chosen by the Lions Club and American Legion Auxiliary as representatives to Girls State. Alternates are Cindy Robbins, Bourbon, and Joyce Surface, Plymouth. Hull House, Buffalo and Market, open house April 1, 1965; spring fashions, entertainment, refreshments, door prizes. 75 Years Ago Watson’s Drug Store, 110 E. Market St., is celebrating over 75 years of service by offering two articles for the normal price of one. Manager and pharmacist Frank Brennan stated today that an entire new and fresh stock of Nyal goods had been purchased for this sale event. Staff includes Ernest Adams and Norman Taylor. The name of the founder and owner of the store 75 years ago is unknown by its present owners, but prescription records for over 50 years back are still preserved in the Watson files and show that a Doctor Woolley owned and operated the establishment for a number of years. Local resident and long-time druggist, the late J.B. Watson, then purchased the drug store, which still bears his name. Later Glenn Dufur became proprietor. The store is still owned by the Dufur family and now operated by Ethel Dufur, of Warsaw.
