    Jay Hocking, son of Jim and Faye Hocking, Winona Lake, and a junior at Warsaw Community High School, has been selected to participate on a national ministry team known as Operation Barnabas.

Teams are made up of 30 young people from across the United States. Members serve to encourage churches, conduct vacation Bible school and park programs, participate in inner-city ministry and complete manual labor projects.

    Joyce Strand, the daughter of Elwood Strand, Warsaw, has been named the outstanding student in physical education at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.

She is a 1968 North Webster High School graduate.

May 4 1957

    Jim Caskey and Larry Nicolai received the top athletic awards at Syracuse High School. Caskey received a trophy as the outstanding basketball player and and best free throw shooter. Nicolai received a trophy as the outstanding baseball player.

    Mrs. Russell Helvey and Mrs. Dale Grimes, of this city, returned from a mushroom hunt Thursday afternoon, exhibiting a find of 115 mushrooms.
