    Warsaw graduate Amy Miles was awarded the Hillman Award at Indiana State University for her athletic achievements in the shot put and the 20-pound weight throw.

The Hillman Award is given to the senior with the highest athletic achievements. Miles is a two-time MVC shot put champion and has been an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 20-pound weight throw the last two seasons.

    Sgt. Jerry Laurien and Lt. Rich Mikel received special commendation, recognizing each one of them as Law Enforcement Officers for the Year 1982.

Annually, one county law enforcement officer and one Warsaw-Winona Lake law enforcement officer is awarded, by the Optimist Club, the distinctive honor of Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.

    Second Lt. William H. Myers Jr., whose parents live in Syracuse, recently was graduated from the Army's anti-aircraft artillery and guided missile school at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Bill completed the school's surface-to-air missile officer basic course which trained him in all theoretical and practical aspects of the NIKE guided missile.

    Wallace Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Bowman, of this city, has been elected to the honorary scholastic fraternity of Phi Beta Kappa, at Indiana University where he graduates in June.
