    Dayna Ridderman is valedictorian and Melissa Blaschke is salutatorian of the 2002 senior class of Warsaw Community High School. Ridderman plans to major in pre-medicine at the University of Notre Dame. She is the daughter of Richard and Karen Ridderman, Warsaw. Blaschke plans to attend the University of Southern California. She is the daughter of Craig and Helen Blaschke, Warsaw.

    This  recipe was submitted in the Spotlight Recipe Contest for South Of The Border  - Ingredients: 1-1/2 lbs. round steak; 1 cup coarsely chopped onion; 1/2 lb. mushrooms, sliced; 16 oz. tomato sauce; 3 tbsp. water; 2 tbsp. red wine vinegar or lemon juice; 1/4 tsp. salt; 1/3 cup flour seasoned with salt and pepper to taste; 1 cup coarsely chopped green pepper; 1 tbsp. sugar; 1 bayleaf, crushed fine (optional); 1/2 tsp. chili powder; 1/4 tsp. ground cumin.
      Remove bone, fat from steak. Cut into thin, narrow strips. Dredge in seasoned flour. Quickly brown in 3 tbsp. hot oil. Mix the rest of the ingredients together, except the mushrooms. Add the onion, pepper sauce mixture to the meat. Bring to boil, turn down and cover. Simmer about 55 minutes or until meat is tender. Add mushrooms and simmer 10-15 minutes longer.      Dr. Charles S. Morris, former member of the  Manchester College Department of Physics faculty, was elected to the rank of “Fellow” in the Indiana Academy of Science. The announcement was made by Dr. William W. Bloom, Secretary of the Academy.
