Jim Gast and Diane McCleary won top awards last night at the Warsaw Community High School Spring Band Concert, enjoyed by a large crowd in the auditorium of the new high school building on East Smith Street. Charles Andrews, local plumbing and heating contractor, presented the Andrews Arion Foundation award – a medal and pin – to Miss McCleary, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McCleary, of Route 2. The winner of this annual award is chosen by fellow band members and must meet the following requirements: better than average scholastic standing, cooperation over and above normal duties, general musicianship, music performance, attendance, ambition, diligence, inspiration to others, personal habits, and qualified to carry on the best traditions of the school. Jim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Gast, of Country Club Drive, was honored as the outstanding bandsman and received the student director (baton) award. He also was chosen by fellow band members. Both are seniors this year. Director Basil O'Reilley complimented all the band members for their fine work during the school year.
