 The local orthopedics industry was recognized recently as international leaders of design by International Design Magazines May 2002 issue. Warsaw was named one of the best “design” towns – in the same category as Montreal, Rio De Janeiro, Zurich and London – due to the presence of Biomet, Medtronic/Sofamor Danek, Symmetry Medical, Zimmer and DePuy. These five companies design, manufacture and market 40 percent of the world’s orthopedic products.

 Will we still be watching the “Tonight Show,” laughing at Garfield and listening to rock and roll in the year 2017? Fourth-grade gifted and talented students in the Warsaw Community Schools hope to find out when time capsules they buried last week are dug up in 30 years. PACE students from Silver Lake, Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington and Leesburg buried items they have collected at those schools during May.

 Dedication of the recently completed “Petersime Chapel” at Manchester College will be held during services Sunday Afternoon, May 27. The donor is Ray Petersime, Gettysburg, Ohio, manufacturer and a member of the college board of trustees for 34 years. Representatives of the college administration and student body will accept the gift. The chapel has been designed to serve as the center for meditation and devotional activities on campus.

 Members of the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department expect to send 15 to 18 delegates to the annual convention of the Northern Indiana Volunteer & Industrial Fireman’s Association to be held at Decatur, June 11 and 12. Warsaw will enter three contests: the water battle, truck race and novelty race. Those participating are Bob and Mike Hodges, Link Hay and Leonard Wolford. Herbert Thompson will be captain of events.
