10 Years Ago YMCA’s Earth Service Corps participants took part in a two-day service project recently with Becky Brodhead, third-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School. The mission for this project was to revitalize the courtyard area at the school. Highlights of the project include: overall cleanup of the overgrown area, weeding and mulching of flowers, hanging of bird feeders in visible locations for students; and draining and cleaning decorative ponds.
25 Years Ago Wheels produced by Warsaw’s Sun Metal Products are being used on a new motorized golf club carrier. Officials of Kangaroo Products Co. in Columbus, N.C., say the battery-powered caddie will carry your heavy golf bag filled with clubs while you get the healthy exercise of walking around the course. The caddie weighs only 31 pounds and can be quickly taken apart for the trip home in your car trunk.
50 Years Ago The Madison grade school track team has won the all-city track championship for the sixth year in a row. The following are members of the team: Jay Sensibaugh, Bob Pittenger, Greg Holloway, Mike Johnston, Jack Snoke, Brad Baumgardner, Coach Kent Adams, Jon Dunwell, Ron Stafford, Steve Swinehart, Dave Baxter, Ralph Luce, Coach Charles Staton and Chuck Huffman. William Farrar is the principal.
75 Years Ago A new record in the mile run was established by Robert Chambers, Warsaw High School, who broke the tape at the finish of the grueling grind in the sectional track meet at Elkhart. Chambers broke a record of nine years’ standing made by Don Lash, Auburn, now national collegiate champion and Olympic contender. His time of 4 minutes, 36.03 seconds lowered Lash’s record 10 seconds.
