10 Years Ago Ervin Bolt Construction, Warsaw, does more than just remodeling. The company, started in 1974, also builds new homes and light commercial buildings. Dr. Conley’s new dental facility on North Detroit Street, Warsaw, is a spacious Floridian designed building overlooking Center Lake and designed by MSKTD & Associates, Fort Wayne. Deb Conley helped the architect design the interior. A women’s vintage hat revue will take place during the sesquicentennial in June. These ladies are dressed in their finest suits and bedecked with fashionable hats of the time: Ruth Smith, Mary Lois Rockhill and Maude Shade. Entries will be judged in these categories: oldest, most feminine, largest and most unique. 25 Years Ago Kelly Collier, Warsaw Community High School junior, has been chosen as a semifinalist for Indiana’s “Dreamer and Doer Contest” sponsored by Walt Disney World and based upon her demonstration of curiosity, confidence, courage and constancy. These character traits were admired by Walt Disney and form the cornerstone of the program. A special service at the Community Grace Brethren Church will honor four Warsaw Christian School teachers: Barbara Titus, fourth-grade, 10 years; Helen Myers, first-grade, 10 years; Carol Hoffert, school librarian, part-time 10 years; Susan Brundage, five years. WCS administrator is Norman Gunsolley. Reigning Miss Kosciusko, Shelly Sanders, is available for speaking engagements, parades, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, grand openings. The Miss Indiana Pageant is June 24. 50 Years Ago Emmaline Boyd, Times-Union reporter: “Auctioning of the county home (infirmary) and its 157.75 acres of land just south of Warsaw took approximately 10 minutes Tuesday, April 7. The Wallace Millers, 705 N. West St., Warsaw, were the high bidders with a closing sale price of $80,000. Only one other bidder, William J. Bibler, a local home builder, competed with the Millers. The sale of the 89-year-old landmark was conducted by County Attorney Robert Rasor at the courthouse in the office of county commissioners, Raymond Ferverda, Fred Gilliam and Lawrence Butts. As soon as the transaction is completed, the Miller’s will start remodeling and decorating the present building to be used as a combination retirement center and nursing home. 75 Years Ago Thirty stockholders of Kosciusko County Fair Association met last night to determine whether they would settle disagreement with Warsaw’s Board of Works over use of the uptown streets for the 1939 county fair. Issues discussed were: holding the fair outside Warsaw on private grounds; accepting the city administration’s offer to grant use of the streets excepting a 20x40 foot space withheld for firemen at the Buffalo-Center Street corner; abandoning the fair this year. Stockholders and public opinion were not in favor of abandoning the fair.
