    Nicholas Beck, 19, of Warsaw, son of Roxanne Parker, is in the Navy and is stationed on the USS Roosevelt off the coast of Kosovo. He recently wrote his mother that one thing he really missed was Thin Mints. Parker made myriad calls, to no avail.

Then Paula Whitesell, grandmother of Tara Whitesell, Beck's girlfriend, went into action, calling around the state. She finally called Indianapolis and talked to someone who arranged to have what they claimed was the "last box of Thin Mints" available for sale in Indiana shipped to Beck.

Phillips Service Award; Julie Parke, Hanft Musical Achievement Award; Ken Overmyer, Louis Armstrong Jazz Award; Bob Eherenman, Arion Outstanding Bandsman Award; and Mike Cook, Conductor's Award.

    Eighteen-year-old Carole Hartle is The Times-Union May Calendar Girl. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Hartle, Country Club Drive. She will be among more than 100 Warsaw High School graduates this month. She hopes to work in the field of medicine.


75 Years Ago

May 2 1934

    Sara Ellen Orr, Charlotte Robison and Dorothy Diehl of grade 5 of the Leesburg school made an "A," the highest grade, in all subjects of their final examination and in their year's work. The first two girls are only 9 years of age. Ruth Templin is the instructor.
