 Megan Keffaber and Ashley Penrod are co-valedictorians for the Manchester High School class of 2002. Keffaber and Penrod maintained perfect grade point averages of 11.0 over four years. Keffaber plans to attend Purdue University to study communications, and hopes to attend law school. She is the daughter of Kerry and Betsy Keffaber. Penrod plans to attend Ball State University and major in education, with the goal of becoming a teacher and coach. She is the daughter of Darrell and Marilyn Penrod.

 Brenda Kachlik and Brant Bair have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, at Warsaw Community High School. Kachlik is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kachlik of Warsaw. She graduates with a 13.740 grade point average. She plans to attend Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Bair is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bair of Warsaw. Bair graduates with a 13.343 GPA. Bair plans to attend DePauw University.

 The Rev. C.M. Russell, Winona Lake, and his 13-year-old son, Mervin Dean, escaped uninjured Sunday afternoon when their cabin cruiser ripped a section off its bottom and went down in the water of Winona Lake within three minutes. Rev. Russell and David just had time to put on their life jackets when the cabin cruiser went down and rolled over with just the inverted bow section sticking above water. They were rescued within minutes.

 Homer Rodeheaver is spending $3,000 painting the outside of the Winona Hotel and making extensive improvements on the interior. The hotel will be managed this season by Mrs. Nell Lucas, who will also manage the Westminster Hotel.
