Mayor Joe Johnson reported to the Board of Works that state highway officials will make a traffic check at the corner of Prairie and Buffalo streets to determine the need for a stoplight. City Engineer D.H. “Jerry” Lessig presented plans for widening Scott Street. 75 Years Ago Warsaw High School debaters Donna Hudson, Jean Thomas, Marilyn Amos, Encel H. Dodge Jr., Jesse Eschbach Jr., Robert Towns, Robert Gast and John Tuckey were awarded letters Thursday morning by their coach Allen Campbell, and recognition for the fine work they have done this year by Principal Loren Chastain. Fred Gilliam of Chapman Lake is the inventor of a bird house he manufactures by hollowing out a gourd after it has dried, removing the seeds and converting into an artistic “Jenny Wren” house, equipping the dollar-size opening with a small entrance perch. The gourds are enameled and varnished with bright solid colors and sell for $1 each.
