10 Years Ago Two Warsaw writers will be featured in the July issue of Oxygen magazine. The publication is a national women’s health and fitness magazine. Cindy BeMent wrote one article and Steve Breeden wrote another. Breeden’s article is about Nancy Hays, 63, a local female powerlifter.
25 Years Ago Linda D. Sittler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sittler, of Silver Lake, was recently presented the Dwight L. Smith Award for excellence in research and writing at the University of Indianapolis. Sittler’s winning paper was titled “Vietnam 1945-50: Confused Beginnings of American Policy.” Sittler, a senior at the university, is majoring in chemistry.
50 Years Ago An Atwood girl is among the six varsity cheerleaders picked for the coming school year at Warsaw High School. Joining five Warsaw girls is Sue Thomas, of Atwood. The other varsity cheerleaders are Kerry Anglin, Sonja Johnson, Diane McCleary, Pat Sellers and Candy Thomas. Syd Silveus will serve as the alternate cheerleader.
75 Years Ago Horses and mules in number show a decrease and farm tractors an increase in assessment records of 1937 as compared with 1936, now on file in the office of the county assessor. In 1937 there was assessed 6,005 horses, average value $88, total value $527,006, as compared to 6,034 horses, average value $94, total value $567,835 in 1936.
