10 Years Ago Kosciusko County 4-H Horse and Pony Judging Team competed in the state contest May 7 at Purdue University. Team members are Kayla Yantz, Mallory Martin, Kacie Wallace, Trenda Bradley, Danielle Boggs, Kacee Steffe, Bethany Brown, all of Warsaw; Adrienne Carrico, Jamie Wall, both Pierceton; Alexis Busselberg, Kimmel; and Joanna Stoffel, Milford. Five Warsaw elementary school students attended the annual Grade State Chess Championships in Fort Wayne April 23. Alek Jansen won his fourth state championship, taking the fourth grade division; Nic Jansen, second place, second grade division, has won three state championships; James Wynn, fifth in the third grade division; Ross Egri, top unrated player in the fourth grade division; Ryan Egri participated in the fifth grade division. 25 Years Ago Mary Beth Plummer, daughter of Dennis and Sherry Plummer, Warsaw, will graduate from Purdue University May 11. A history major, she was the recipient of the Phi Beta Kappa award for high academic performance. She plans to work for a law firm in Lafayette this summer and in August, she will enter law school at Indiana University. These Warsaw Community Schools fourth-graders competed in an American Legion Auxiliary poppy poster contest: John Eastwood, Washington Elementary, first place; Aynsley Small, Washington, second; Elizabeth Regier, Lincoln Elementary, third. WCS art consultant is Nancy Shoemaker and Jane Butler is an auxiliary member. Warsaw Christian School honored sixth-grade teacher Christine Marken and second-grade teacher Donna Miller May 6. They have both served 10 consecutive years. 50 Years Ago The 66-piece Triton Senior High School Band, under the direction of David Fanning, won a superior rating in the Indiana State Band Contest at Northfield High School. Receiving Lucille Kesler Memorial Nursing Scholarships by Warsaw’s Upsilon chapter, Lambda Chi Omega Sorority were Jayne E. Ashley, daughter of Mrs. Mary E. Ashley, Pierceton, and Ramona L. Enyeart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truman Enyeart, Silver Lake. Mrs. Ralph Coplen is president of the chapter. Grace College is now officially affiliated with the Red Cross organization. The first project is the Bloodmobile unit at the college Friday. Representatives are Dr. and Mrs. Norman Uphouse; Mrs. W.H. Doughman, chairman of college youth at Grace. Beaver Dam Principal Fred Haney resigned, but wants to be retained as a teacher. 75 Years Ago A bicycle, stolen recently from Norman Archer, Scott Street, was discovered Wednesday evening by David Cutler and Bud Hall in Eagle Creek on the north side of the Road 30 bridge west of Warsaw. The bike had one flat tire. North Webster High School will graduate 28 seniors April 18. Hon. Albert Stump, Indianapolis attorney, will give the main address and Superintendent of county schools Harry Lewallen, Warsaw, will present the diplomas. The Rev. J. Walter Gibson will speak at the baccalaureate services. Dedication services for Bourbon’s new library was March 31. The building of this educational institution was made possible through a bequest of $12,000 by the late William Erwin of Bourbon.
