10 Years Ago Danica Holloway, a senior at Lakeland Christian Academy, received the Best of Show Award at the recent Association of Christian Schools International Art Festival. Eleven schools participated in the ACSI Art Festival with Lakeland Christian Academy having 14 student participants. Holloway’s colored pencil drawing, “Chapines,” received a superior rating and the highest rating overall, the Best of Show Award. 25 Years Ago The light of the International Special Olympics Torch will be seen in Warsaw July 31 as law enforcement officers complete the final log of a 27,000-mile trip to the summer international games in South Bend. Police officers from at least three different states will arrive in Warsaw Friday and spend the night here before taking off again Saturday morning. The torch will ignite the Special Olympics flame Sunday, Aug. 2, during opening ceremonies for the seventh annual summer international event at the University of Notre Dame and St. Mary’s College. 50 Years Ago William Unsicker, of Claypool, a senior at Western Theological Seminary, Holland, Mich., received the Henry Pietenpol prize recently at the Honors Assembly. The prize is for high achievement in all aspects of seminary life and work. Unsicker graduates May 16. He has been accepted as a candidate by the Board of World Missions of the Reformed Church in America. 75 Years Ago The Warsaw Daily Times placed second in the annual Hoosier State Press Association contest for best first pages for daily newspapers in Indiana small cities. The Franklin Evening Star was first, receiving the Purdue University Sigma Delta Chi cup. Prof. Osman C. Hooper of Ohio State University was the judge in this event. The Warsaw Times a year ago received first prize in the Republican Editorial Association annual contest.
