    Brooke Fisher and Jenny Sanders of Tippecanoe Valley were recently named Academic All-State Honorable Mention by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

The players selected to the Academic All-State team must be seniors, rank in the top 10 percent of their class, start 90 percent of the games and have a SAT score more than 1,000.

    Beth Hyde is one of 75 who was pinned May 6 at Walb Memorial Union during ceremonies for the associate degree in nursing at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne.


50 Years Ago

May 15 1959

    This isn't exactly "Around Our Town and County" but it's right "next door" in Fulton County. What are believed to be the bones of a mastodon have been uncovered on the Carl Emery farm near the town of Fulton. Emery found the bones while digging a ditch. The collection uncovered to date include a pelvic section, tooth roots, three pieces of lower jaw and spiny tail sections.


75 Years Ago

May 15 1934

    Warsaw officers answered an alarm at the Standard Oil Station, Center and High streets. Leas Bunting, attendant, informed officers and John Dillinger, public enemy No. 1, and Homer Van Meter, Fort Wayne confederate, purchased 12 gallons of gasoline from the station and drove west toward Chicago in a Ford V-8 with an Illinois license number. When the police arrived the two suspects had disappeared.
