10 Years Ago Groundbreaking ceremonies were held recently for the addition of an assisted-living complex on South County Farm Road, Warsaw. The assisted-living concept provides apartment-style accommodations for senior citizens who no longer feel comfortable living alone, but who require only occasional or minimal help to remain independent. The 53-unit complex will provide both studio and one-bedroom apartments.
25 Years Ago Lakeland Christian Academy’s girls softball team placed third during the weekend in the Indiana Christian Athletic Association action at Columbus. Team members are Carmen Conley, Julie Whitman, Jennifer Rose, Darci Nelson, Jenni Reeve, Kris Doron, Marti Dahlquist; head coach Linda Horton, Jill Conley, Jennifer Ellis, Cheryl Myers, Dana Oliver and Niki Dougherty.
50 Years Ago Duke Fisher, son of Rep. and Mrs. George Fisher, Leesburg, is attending a four-day meeting of the American Medical Association in Washington, D.C., as a delegate for the student body of Indiana University Medical School. Duke was recently elected president of the junior class for next year.
75 Years Ago Dr. Otho Winger, president of Manchester College, was the guest speaker at the Thursday luncheon of the Warsaw Kiwanis Club. By popular request he discussed in generalities the Indian history of Kosciusko County. He stated that this county was originally inherited by the Miami Indians, who were driven out by the Pottowatomies, who before they were forced westward had given names to many places in the county. He stated that Chief Little Turtle was the greatest Indian of all time.
