10 Years Ago Brittny Goon, 7, granddaughter of Sally Goon, Leesburg, recently met Chevy Chase outside the NBC Rainbow Room in New York City. Brittny is the daughter of Jason and Marky Goon, New Paris. The artwork of Courtney Haskins, a fourth-grader at Harrison Elementary School, was selected to hang in the Washington, D.C., office of Congressman Steve Buyer.
25 Years Ago Warsaw resident Dick Katte has been honored as an all-American senior track performer by The Athletic Congress (TAC/USA). Katte was honored for having the eighth fastest time in the United States (age 50 and over) in the 200 meter dash. His 25.26-second clocking came during the White River Park state games, held in the Indiana University Track Stadium in Indianapolis.
50 Years Ago Several hundred persons attended the Spring Music Festival concert presented recently in the local school armory and witnessed the presentation of the top annual awards to two senior girls, Sandra Shanbeck and Sharon Sauer. Sandra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale R. Shanbeck, received the Phillips Cecilian award from Freeland Phillips. Sharon, whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Sauer, was presented the service and achievement award by Miss Margaret Ann Voirol, director of vocal music for the Warsaw Community Schools.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. William Mier, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Davis and Mrs. Chas. Rickle recently left for Chambersburg, Pa., where they will attend the meeting of the general conference of the United Brethren Church. They will return early next week. Mrs. F.B. Davison and son, of Mentone, left this week for Santa Monica, Calif., to spend the summer with the former’s mother, Mrs. Clara B. Gates.
