Alex Hall, a Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services student from Warsaw Community High School, read a Dr. Seuss book to second-grade students at Eisenhower Elementary School as part of the “Read Across Kosciusko County” 2005 celebration. KEYS students, wearing red and white-striped hats, visited all second-grade classrooms.
Dave Shively, Etna Green Township representative on the Triton school board, announced that he plans to resign his seat on the board effective June 30 after serving nine years due to an increase in his work responsibilities as a national sales manager.

WCHS Winter Sports Awards: Michelle Danner, cheerleading; David Wolf and Chris Brandt, swimming; Angie Johnson and Kim Harrison, girls basketball; Kara Hackworth and Debbie Wilson, gymnastics; Jason Zimmerman and Brian Elliott, boys basketball; Bob Taylor and Aaron Wilson, wrestling.
Three Warsaw coaches were honored by Scholastic Magazine and Franklin Life Insurance  for contributions to their respective sports: Viv Eidemiller, track; Will Wienhorst, girls basketball; and Al Rhodes, boys basketball.

Mabel Brock, Martha Gochenour and Chester Young will celebrate their 90th birthdays April 1 at the First United Church of Christ, Bourbon.

Cynthia Juillerat, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Juillerat, and Mike McNanama, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith McNanama, will be Larwill’s representatives in the county spelling bee finals April 24.  Juillerat won the fifth-sixth grade title; McNanama won the seventh-eighth grade title; teachers are Mrs. Miller  and Mrs. Kessie.
Howard Lightfoot was appointed new Winona Lake town marshal by Porter Polston, Lyle Martin, Paul Tschetter and the Rev. Lester Pifer, town board members. He assumes his duties July 1, 1965.
Estelle Lynch, a member of the Warsaw-Wayne Township public library board, will speak at the National Secretaries Association meeting tonight.

George Plew, principal of Pierceton High School, host of the 1940 Pierceton sectional basketball tourney, emphatically denied to the Times and Union newspapers a rumor prevalent in the county that there is an epidemic of contagious disease now in Pierceton. This rumor would have seriously curtailed attendance at the tourney if spread and believed.
The opening encounter Feb. 29 matches Leesburg’s greatly improved Blue Blazer five against Claypool’s Knights. Second game throws Atwood’s Greyhounds against the Silver Lake Ramblers. Burket Hawks are pitted against Etna Township in the final game of the evening. Pierceton vs. Beaver Dam, Sidney vs. Larwill, county champs Syracuse vs. Milford, Warsaw vs. Etna Green and North Webster vs. Mentone play March 1; championship game is March 2.
