10 Years Ago American flags waved from mittened and gloved hands Saturday morning at Central Park Plaza. A rally for the troops brought about 200 people who braved sleet and snow to show their support for military personnel involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Locally Company A of the 1st Battalion 293rd Infantry, Indiana Army National Guardsmen, sent 122 local men assigned to the Warsaw Armory. Co-organizer Shanna Goon said she wanted to hold the event for the troops. 25 Years Ago The Teacher Education Department of Grace College, Winona Lake, has announced that Robert Harris, of Warsaw, and Todd Davis, of Zionsville, have been selected to receive the Outstanding Prospective Teacher Award for 1968. Harris did his student teaching at Lincoln Elementary School under the supervision of Charles Hunter, and Davis did his student teaching at Warsaw Community High School under Mrs. E. Ann Robinson’s supervision. 50 Years Ago Sydney Martin, a Warsaw High School senior, has been accepted for admission to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Principal William Davis announced. Syd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Furman Martin, Warsaw, plans to pursue a course in theoretical physics. Davis said he believes young Martin is the first from this city ever accepted at M.I.T. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Russell Spear, who have enjoyed a two-weeks trip to New Orleans, are expected to return this weekend to Warsaw. They were accompanied by their son, Phillip. Reed DuBois, student at Indiana University, Bloomington, arrived recently in Warsaw to spend the spring vacation here with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C.C. DuBois.
