Local students who were recognized in the 1997 Tandy Technology Scholars Program, receiving certificates for outstanding math/science/computer science students went to Richard Speakman, Wawasee High School, and Jill Sibray and Kevin Masure, both from Warsaw Community High School.
Marine Pfc. Randall F. Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse J. Richardson, Pierceton, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with Marine Air Base Squadron 13, Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif.
A bulletin from Purdue University reports that Sam Joyner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Joyner, Route 2, has pledged Skull and Crescent, a national activities honorary for organized sophomore men. Sam, a sophomore in physical education, was selected for his work in football.
Prof. John Barton, vocational teacher of the Warsaw High School, accompanied by the agricultural students, staged a swine judging demonstration, using the pure bred Durocs at the E.B. Burchby farm southwest of Warsaw.
Much intelligence was shown by the young soon-to-be "master farmers" due to the constant efforts of their able instructor. Those taking part in the judging were: John Anglin, Roger Parker, Donald Sheeley, Charles Huffer, Dean Cook, Lawrence McCrite, Wallace Robinson, Kenneth Foreman, Donald Stiver, Wesley Hay, Ralph Henderson, Gerald Kinsey and William Eiler.
