Area students were recognized at a patriotic tea in their honor Feb. 20 at the First United Methodist Church. County overall grade winners were Heidi Kolberg, fifth-grade, Syracuse Elementary; Erika Jansen, sixth; Holly Kolberg, seventh, Syracuse Middle School; Ashley Auer, eighth, Lakeland Christian Academy. Holly’s essay will advance to the district contest. Others are Haley Hinkle, fifth-grade, Eisenhower Elementary; Olivia Korey, fifth, home-school; Megan Meulink, seventh, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School; Travis Adams, fifth, Akron Elementary.
Cameron Parker was selected as the DAR Good Citizen at Tippecanoe Valley High School, selected by his class for leadership and patriotism.

The most expensive project this April is the repaving of Center Street east of the Conrail tracks. Widening Center Street has been discussed at various times during the last 10 years but current city officials do not favor it. Mayor Jeff Plank said the street right now reminds him of the movie “Tremors.”
Two Disney programs will be presented at the Warsaw Community Public Library during spring break, “Yellowstone Cubs” and “Peter and the Wolf.”  There will be stories from Disney books, tricks and riddles.
Rob Roy, the smooth sable Collie owned by Leigh and Nancy Felheim, won first place in the American Bred Dog Class in the Collie Club of America National Show in Louisville, Ky.

Warsaw Jaycees “Oldtimers”: G. Freeland Phillips (charter member 1936), Dr. Virgil McCleary, H.C. Coney, Robert Eherenman, James McCleary, Wayne Graff Jr., Marv Tousley, Allan Rasor, Bill Harvuot, Phillip Harris, Jack Sellers, Richard Hamm, Richard Chinworth, Keith Horn, Jerry Wallace and Richard Clay. The oldtimers extended a welcome to Ronald Hoskins, a prospective member, at a dinner last night.
Duane Huffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Huffer, and junior at Warsaw Community High School, will represent Warsaw Junior Achievement at the Regional Sales Contest April 9 in Madison, Wis. He was chosen “Best Salesman of the Year” March 11 for WRSW-JA, counseled by Reub Williams and Sons. Each of the seven J.A. companies in Warsaw sold their product or service to a prospect before a panel of judges.

Clayton Truex, son of Mr. and Mrs. Salathiel Truex, of South Metzler Avenue, Nappanee, observed his first birthday. He was born on Feb. 29, 1936, and consequently has such an anniversary only every four years.
A Wayne Township map has been framed and placed in a conspicuous place in the Warsaw fire station. The move is one of the first in preparation for the use of the Wayne Township fire truck, which is expected to be placed in operation soon.
Considerable loss was experienced by the Cole Bros. circus and the Rochester Chamber of Commerce during the recent fire caused by faulty electrical wiring.
