A theater group from Warsaw Community High School is headed to nationals following an outstanding performance at the Indiana State Thespian Conference. Following its performance of "Fortress," the group received a standing ovation and was invited to perform in Lincoln, Neb., in June. Group members are Brenna Campbell, Matt VanCuren, Millicent Weiss, Matt Presley, Katie Aguilar, Brandon Wentz, Jessie Saylor, Paul Stephens, Kevin Davis, Ben Maxson, Savanna Kimmerling, Melita Quance and Karalee Stockman. POTPOURRI - School children in this area aren't the only ones taking part in the Weekly Reader Balloon contest, where helium balloons are released in with hopes they will travel great distances before being recovered. Seems Ralph McFarren, Rt. 3, found a balloon in his orchard, southeast of Warsaw, the other day. It came from a youngster attending Rutledge Hall School in Lincolnwood, Ill.
Harold Clabaugh, 20, of Huntington, and formerly of Etna Green, a brakeman for the Erie Railroad, hooked a 5-pound, 11-ounce largemouth bass at Huffman Lake, near Atwood. It measures 20 inches. He was fishing off the bank with his father, Russell Clabaugh, Etna Green. Caught on a spinning rod, it was his first bass in 10 years of fishing.
Among the prized possessions of Mrs. Hopkins who resides at the Kosciusko County home is the discharge from the Ohio militia, 113 years ago, of Calvin Pratt, believed to have been a veteran of the War of 1812. According to the paper, which is yellow with age, Calvin Pratt, a lieutenant of the Fourth company, in Odd Battalion, the Third brigade, Seventh division of the Ohio militia was discharged as a soldier on Sept. 3, 1818. The discharge is signed by Thomas Worthington, governor of Ohio.
