Dan Graney, sixth-grade teacher at Harrison Elementary and student council supervisor, challenged the students to raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis. The student council accepted the challenge, set their goal at $500 and “Jar Wars” was introduced. The final total was more than $2,000. Harrison has achieved “Miracle School” status and will be recognized by Riley. Students include Kanchan Rao, Jordan Scroggs, Corbin Stair, Ryan Murphy and Matt Reinholt.
Grace College Art Department and Brethren Missionary Herald Publishing Co., Winona Lake, formed a partnership. Department chair Prof. Art Davis displayed several illustrations drawn by graduate Sarah Pratt for a BMH book titled “Heroes Who Live On.” Students and alumni are typesetting and designing other books.

Whitko High School will present “The Music Man,” directed by choir instructor Marie Hutton, at 7:30 p.m. March 23 and 24 in the auditorium. More than 70 cast and crew are involved in Warsaw Community High School theatre department’s production of “Les Miserables” at 7 p.m. March 23. Chad Shaffner plays the role of a convict.
Sherry Shaffner, daughter of Steve and Carolyn Shaffner, will participate in the Miss Indiana Teen All-American Pageant April 28 in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Hotel, Indianapolis. She is an eighth-grade student at Warsaw Middle School.
Kosciusko County Historical Society and Historic Landmarks will be working together for nine months starting in June to document landmarks in the county. The finished book will feature structures and sites built before 1940: the courthouse, library, Pound Store, etc.

The Lincoln Lions won the city elementary school basketball championship in a thrill-packed game at the school armory. Steve Tarner crashed through a free throw in the last 19 seconds to send Washington ahead 25-24; Pat Bennett clicked on a field goal from underneath to give Lincoln a 26-25 edge. Bennett and Tom Wiltrout paced the winners with eight points each; Steve Bair captured scoring honors for Washington with 15. Other Lincoln players: Bill Hamilton, Dave Barnes, Bob Brown, Mike Harris, Tom Rank, Gary Shipp, Brian Essenburg. Cheerleaders: Janet Gresso, Virginia Eschbach, Paula Tinkle. Coaches: Gene Butts, Lavon Harman, Steve Kiefer.
Triton High School Trojans nipped Cloverdale 70-67 in the afternoon contest of the Lafayette semi-state, but lost the championship to powerful Gary Roosevelt 103-61.

The Dunham one-room school, located south of Barbee Lake in Tippecanoe Township, was sold Feb. 27 by trustee Earl Himes to Franklin Morehead of near Leesburg for a bid of $401. Bids ranged from $175. The school was built in 1910 and abandoned in 1928.
Workmen began construction of a new, modern, single-story brick business building Feb. 27 at the site on West Center Street formerly occupied by the Russell Knoop barber shop. Nick Mallers, local theatre manager, recently purchased the old frame structure from W.W. Dederick, Warsaw florist. The old building was razed; the new building will have a complete basement, modern heating system and a modern front and interior. Dimensions of the floor space are 22-by-70-feet. Mallers told the Times-Union the building would be completed in six weeks.
