    Eagles Aerie 1339 presented awards recently to police, fire and EMS personnel. Public servants recognized were Gordon Nash, officer of the year from Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department; Gerald Oswalt, officer of the year from Warsaw Police Department; Mark Howard, firefighter of the year from Warsaw Fire Department; and Garry Baker, emergency medical technician of the year from Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service.

April 4 1984

    Navy Petty Officer George K. Susan Jr. had a very special guest aboard this ship recently - his father, North Webster resident George K. Susan Sr. joined his son aboard USS Cleveland, while that ship was on its homeward journey to the United States following a six-month overseas development.

The visit was part of "Project Tiger," a U.S. Navy program in which male family members of ship crewmen can join the sailor for a cruise to get a first-hand idea of what life is like at sea on a Navy ship.

    Jay Benson, of Winona Lake, a Warsaw Junior High School freshman, won the oratorical contest by the Warsaw Optimist Club and will compete April 14 in the regional contest at Fort Wayne.

Jay is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Benson.

April 4 1934

    Miles Stilwell's wife, of Arthur Street, served him the first mess of dandelion greens of the year, the first home grown, vegetable delicacy on record for 1934 on Sunday. Now Miles is looking for Popeye. Popeye trains on spinach.
