    SYRACUSE - Wawasee High School students won the Northern Lakes Conference Academic Super Bowl competition recently at Concord High School.

Wawasee students participating in the competition were Vanessa Shafer, Evelyn Boesenberg, Kristi Brandon, Alena List, Jonathan Trojan, Sky Speakman, James Baumgartner, Mike Oswald, Glenn Strycker, Ryan Yoder, Anita Doherty, Corey Hardin, Benjamin Ashpole, Matt Heincher and Paul Strycker.

    Royal Baum, owner of Royal's Super Valu, Bourbon, presents Charlotte Slabaugh of Etna Green with her prize, a deluxe trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, one week for two. She was top winner in a recent promotion at the grocery store.

    Heroic deeds sometimes go unnoticed as far as the general public is concerned, but one came to light when it was learned that a 14-year-old Beaver Dam girl, Karen Perdiue, save the life of Lulu Myers, 58, of Peru, recently.

Karen, of Claypool (Beaver Dam Lake) and a freshman at Beaver Dam school, was credited with saving the life of Mrs. Myers after the middle-aged woman, who cannot swim, toppled into Beaver Dam Lake when a pier collapsed.

    Nellie Kilian presented a group of her piano pupils in a recital recently at the home of Mrs. Richard Robinson at Winona Lake. The program was interspersed by readings, given by Sybil Saylor and Kilian, and songs which were sung in a pleasing manner by Mrs. Ralph Haney. Those playing were: Dorothy Shaffer, Sybil Saylor, Lois and Dickey Robinson, Mrs. Leroy Bartol, Carolyn Kozak, Bennie, Robert and Paul Haney, Ogden Pierce and Janet Worrell.
