Members of the Warsaw Community High School Percussion Ensemble received bronze medals for their third-place finish in World Finals competition. After winning the state championship for Concert World Class for the third time in eight years, WCHS advanced to the World Finals April 15-16 at Wright-Patterson University in Dayton, Ohio. Their program, “The Deep End,” was arranged and directed by band directors Mickey Ratliff and Matthew Gratton.
An open house is planned for Warsaw’s second wastewater treatment plant, CR 150W (McElroy Hill Road) behind G&G Excavating on April 22. Assistant operator Brian Davidson said the plant is taking in 1.2 to 1.3 million gallons of wastewater per day. The Boggs Park plant collects a million gallons per day.

Manchester College is sponsoring a number of events for Earth Day, April 21. Five Manchester graduates will speak, including Pierceton native, Dr. Gene Likens.
The Convention and Visitors’ Bureau voted to feature KC, the county’s animated representative, on a hot air balloon owned by Jerry Hull. The balloon advertising will start in July and run for at least three years. Approximately 50 percent of the flights will be inside the county, while the rest will be around the state. Hull assured board members that KC will be very visible. “The balloon will normally not be flown above 500 feet.”
Auctioneer Bill Warren and his wife, Molly, shared the honor of “Citizen of the Year” presented annually by the Pierceton Community Chamber of Commerce. Other husband/wife winners since the program’s inception in 1974: Charles and Betty Cone, 1977; Leon and Doris Kubacki, 1984; Charles and Valda Collier, 1985.

Linda K. Smalley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smalley, Akron, and Erna Marie Trier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Trier, Warsaw, graduated from the Executive Secretarial School of International College with associate degrees.
South Whitley Bulldogs nipped the Leesburg Blazers 15-13 to win the Kosciusko County volleyball championship at the Syracuse gym: Randy Roberts, John and Tom Leiter, Mike O’Connor, Steve Reiff, Ray Auker, John Shaffer, Harry and DeWayne Kyler, Dallas Caudill, Steve Walpole, Jack Hart and Coach Bill Patrick.
Cathy Kuhn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Kuhn, was chosen delegate to Girls State and Sharon Leckrone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Leckrone, alternate, by Akron’s American Legion Auxiliary. Both are in National Honor Society at Akron High School.

Muskrats have damaged Ind. 19 three and a half miles south of Mentone, according to State Highway Superintendent Ed Ragan, of Winona Lake. The rats burrow under, drag out dirt and the roadway caves in, causing $500 damage the past four years.
City employees used a fire hose to wash alleys in the business district, left dirty by the melting snow.
Times cameraman Bill Mollenhour was out in the lot behind his father-in-law Harry Watkins’ home, East Center Street, sailing a kite in the afternoon wind.
The room in the court house being vacated by the Red Cross nurse will be turned over to Sheriff Burton B. Foulke for private consultations.
