    Jerad Shaw recently was selected Baker Youth Clubs 1998 member of the year. Jerad was chosen from more than 1,100 local members of Baker Youth Clubs and is the 72nd member of the year since the club was founded in 1926. Jerad is the son of Melvin and Dixie Shaw of Warsaw, and is an eighth-grader at Edgewood Middle School. He attends the club regularly and won the award because of his attitude, desire and sportsmanship.

    Greg Thornsbury, a 17-year-old Warsaw Community High School junior, correctly guessed all seven categories in the Third Annual Academy Awards contest and was randomly selected as the winner of a trip for two to Hollywood.

April 29 1958

    Connie Garber, 8, of North Webster, and 5-year-old Patrice Novak, of Warsaw, were named top winners of the annual Bugs Bunny Easter Coloring Contest sponsored by Times-Union.

Connie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Garber, of North Webster, will receive $5 from The Times-Union as the open division winner. First-place prize for the little Novak girl, tots champion, will be $3. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Novak, Warsaw.

75 Years Ago

April 29 1933

    Harvey Nine, of this city, was successful in landing two fine catches this morning, while fishing in the backwaters of Center Lake. One was a 30-pound buffalo, and the other a 20-pound carp.

Ed Poulson and William Boehning, of this city, each caught the limit while fishing at Little Chapman Lake.
