10 Years Ago After 35 years in the telecommunication business – 25 years of that with Sprint – Larry Peppel, 59, decided he wanted to do something different. He wanted to give back to the community. In mid-March, he was hired as the new executive director of the Kosciusko County chapter of the American Red Cross. Always having enjoyed helping people and wanting to work for the community, he decided to go for the Red Cross position when it became available after Becky Notestine left.
25 Years Ago This recipe was featured in the Oriental Category of the Spotlight Recipe Contest for Oriental Popcorn. 2 qts. popped popcorn, unsalted; 1 (6-1/4 oz.) can cashews; 1 (5 oz.) can chow mein noodles; 1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted; 1-1/2 tbsp. soy sauce; 3/4 tsp. ground ginger. Combine popcorn, nuts and noodles. Combine butter, soy sauce and ginger, stirring well; pour over popcorn mixture. Toss well. Pour into a 15”x10”x1” jellyroll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes. Store in airtight container. Yield: 2-1/2 qts. Cheryl J. Sandy, Warsaw
50 Years Ago Jo Ann Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Miller, received a $300 scholarship, one of many awards presented at the Junior Achievement “Future Unlimited” banquet recently. Jo Ann is president of Imp Printers which tied with the Rak-Ko company for “best company” honors. She also holds the “president of the year” title for this area and was one of seven recipients of executive awards.
75 Years Ago Announcement was made recently at the regular semi-monthly meeting of the Warsaw Philatelic club which was held at the home of John Tuckey of Warsaw. It was a contest for all members will be held and that a prize of a stamp album will be awarded for the most attractively arranged page of stamps. It will be judged by Mrs. Velora Frazer, art instructor in the Warsaw public schools.
