A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently for the YMCA's new warm water training pool for water exercise classes, water walking, family swims and other activities.
This year's Women's Christian Temperance Union post contest drew 500 entries from eight Kosciusko County elementary schools. The winners were Cathy Shipley and Cari Howie, both of Jefferson School; Jeff Bridge and Matt Guiff, both of Atwood; Travis Rowland and Aaron Vetter, both of Claypool; Missy Stover and Lori Walters, both of Silver Lake; Lynn Hartman and Amy Strieby, both of Leesburg; Sarah Sterk and Kimberly Coverstone, both of Madison; Tammy Shepherd and Ginger Christ, both of Washington; and Becky Cler and Christy Pennington, both of Lincoln. The overall winner in the contest was Christy Pennington and her poster has been sent to compete in the state contest.
After checking a string of 10 bass, weighing a total of 30 pounds, caught by Gilbert Giffis and Larry Boggs, both of Mentone, Conservation officer Billie Davis said they were all legal size. The bass were caught at an undisclosed lake on silver minnows. The largest weighed 6-1/2 pounds.
Geneal Poor, Maxine Thomas, Noble Babcock and Harold Hall will represent Etna Green High School at the Purdue University roundup next week. The high school pupils will go May 2 to Lafayette to attend the annual 4-H club events.
