10 Years Ago It wasn’t “Star Wars” but “Food Wars” at the YMCA Teen Night Friday. With approximately 100 teenagers during the 11-hour event, teams competed for the right to participate in the grossest, smelliest, stickiest food fight toward the end of the night. Until the food fight at 5 a.m., squads participated in activities like 3-on-3 basketball, ice breakers, video games, dodgeball, soccer and chicken ball.
25 Years Ago An Etna Green woman has won an automobile in a game show’s home audience play-along. Catharine Sparrow’s name was announced recently as winner of a 1987 Isuzu I Mark during the broadcast of “Blockbuster,” which is aired on NBC at 9:30 every weekday. To enter, contestants had to mail a postcard with the correct answer to one of several “Blockbuster” puzzles. Sarro said, “You could enter as many times as you wanted, but I answered one.”
50 Years Ago Tom Van Osdol, son of Mrs. Dean Van Osdol, of Warsaw is among the honor students who‘ll receive recognition at the 142nd Founders Day celebration of Indiana University in Bloomington May 2. Tom’s in the school of dentistry at Indianapolis. His family has been invited to attend the honors convocation and a reception afterward.
75 Years Ago Those attending the commencement exercises at Silver Lake on Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kreamer and daughters, Magdalena, and Marjorie, Mary Belle Smith, Betty Lou Overmyer, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewallen and daughter, Donna Marjorie.
